Love Anyway

We are being sorted into camps to wage war with each other for profit. The media has monetized our division. Never before have our closed hearts provided so much financial gain. Logarithms are designed to show you only content and people who confirm your ideology and biases. And all this for profit. This is not to say that beliefs and ideology are unimportant. Our core convictions are vital to the belonging, safety, and flourishing of our communities. There are real differences of conviction that matter in our country. Yet, what do we lose when we sort each other into dehumanizing ideological bunkers and lob grenades (real or verbal) at one another? What do we lose when we cancel communities? We lose the ability to bridge build, to empathize, to listen, and to love fiercely even when it’s difficult. We must not forget how to do the hard work of loving each other. More than ever, the essential spiritual work is to keep the heart soft and open. We do this not because we all need to agree, but because we share the same planet and our collective health and happiness depends on us our ability to value the infinite worth of all of us. We are interdependent. When we honor interdependence, we thrive. When dismiss it, we all suffer. Weekend Wisdom is a weekly sharing from Copper Beech Institute’s founder, Dr. Brandon Nappi.
